Orchestral, Choral and Chamber Program: “Coronation Mass”
Sunday, June 22 at 7:30pm at First Baptist Church of Herrin

$20 General; $8 Students any age
Mozart’s glorious “Coronation” Mass, String Quintet in g, and Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet
Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra and Chorus; Joseph Ryker, Conductor

This years theme “Mostly Mozart in the Midwest” would not be complete without the addition of  Mozart’s most popular and glorious “Coronation” Mass. Perhaps the most obvious reason for the mass's popularity in Prague in 1791/2 was the uncanny similarity between the soprano solo Agnus Dei and the Countess's aria “Dove sono” from The Marriage of Figaro which had been so successful there in the 1780's. The quartet soloists include Julie Shiely, soprano; Allison Spiller, mezzo-soprano; Clay Hilley, tenor; and Won Cho, bass, along with the Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Joseph A. Ryker. Come join us Saturday, June 28 on the campus of SIU Carbondale at 7:30pm were the Festival Orchestra will also perform Mozart’s Symphony No. 29, and again on Sunday, June 22 at the First Baptist Church of Herrin at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $8 for students of any age. Tickets may be purchased at the event, or by calling the Marion Civic Center box during business hours at (618)997-4030, or online at www.MarionCCC.com.
