The SIFest Orchestra commemorates the 70th anniversary of the World War II Battle of
Normandy, featuring a perhaps the only chamber orchestra piece written on the battlefield, by an American WWII vet, Lionel Semiatin, who is now 96 years old and may join us by Skype from New York. Also included are Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, an Oboe Concerto by Richard Strauss (inspired by an American soldier/oboist who met Strauss at the end of the War), and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Prelude to the inspirational movie, “49th Parallel.”
