Gabriel Beavers is the Assistant Professor of Bassoon at Louisiana State University. Prior to joining the faculty at LS U, h e s erved as Principal Bassoon with the Virginia Symphony. Formerly a member of the New World Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson-Thomas, Mr. Beavers has also performed as Acting Principal Bassoon with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Jacksonville Symphony and served as Acting Second Bassoon with the Milwaukee symphony.  Mr. Beavers has also previously held the position of Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Music and has been a member of the Quartz Mountain Music Festival Orchestra that is made up of orchestral musicians from the New York Philharmonic, the Saint Louis, San Diego and Dallas Symphonies.  In addition to his orchestral career Mr. Beavers has performed with many chamber music groups including the Missouri Quintet, the Norfolk Chamber Consort, and the Sheridan Chamber Players as well as the Intermezzo Chamber Music Series in Salt Lake City, UT.  Mr. Beavers is a graduate of Boston University where he studied with Boston Symphony bassoonist Matthew Ruggiero and he holds a masters degree in bassoon from Southern Methodist University where he studied with Dallas Symphony principal bassoonist Wilfred Roberts. Mr. Beavers also spent two summers at the Kent Blossom Music Festival as well as the Chautauqua Music Festival and has been a participant in the National Orchestral Institute in College Park, MD.
